Day in Downtown Chicago

Taking the kids downtown by choo-choo train had been on our list for a while. Off we went to Waukegan Metra station for a 1 hour 20 minute trip into Chicago. Of course the novelty wears off quickly for kids and sitting down is not their forte. But after numerous stops we finally reached our destination and we had a nice walk in the city and cooled off in Millenium park. A great day!

Its time to move again...

Completely unexpected, a new adventure presented itself to us a few weeks ago. After a quick weekend trip and some further negotiations we are excited to tell you that we are moving to Buenos Aires, Argentina!

From January 2011, Buenos Aires will be our new hometown. The coming months we'll be busy preparing our move and learn some Spanish...

If all goes as expected we will move into a nice house, with lots of room for guests in the middle of the Palermo Soho neighborhood.

We'll keep you updated...

Chicago Air and Water Show 2010

We got up very early on Sunday morning and had breakfast on the boat while we set course to Chicago. What an experience!
Aircraft with screaming afterburners were flying so low we were afraid that they would scrape of our mast! And all of that in front of the beautiful Chicago skyline. It was great day and with aching ears from all the noise, we sailed back to Waukegan were we arrived late evening.

Fun Fair

Typical Fun Fair in Waukegan: Too loud Latino music and way too aged rides but what a fun for the kids!

Baboe & Dziadek 2010

What a great summertime we had together! Nina & Stasiu were spoiled for three whole weeks with presents, games, and lots and lots of love.

Stasiu's firs haircut

Stasiu no longer has his baby locks - the first haircut is a fact. He's a real big boy now and it suits him. At first he did not really know what was happening to him and was sitting still nicely, then suddenly and fortunately at the end of the session, it was over and time to take him out of the robe and chair to admire his new hairdo!

New pool!

Our neigbours Laura and Al had bought a new, big, serious pool, which they thought would fit nicely on our driveway :) And it did! It's a truly great cool-off pool and the kids love it too.

Ciocia in the USA

Cioca Elzunia from Warsaw came to visit us in Waukegan. It was great to have her over, have her meet Nina & Stasiu, go out for trips on the boat together, go to Chicago and meet our friends.

4th of July parade

And also this year we put our chairs just outside Upton Park at the end of our street, to enjoy the 4th of July parade. It was fun again. Nina particularly liked all the sweets that were handed out. She had quite a collection to take home by the end of the afternoon. But of course some had to be sampled on the spot :)

New backyard fence

It had been on our to-do-list for a while. From a distance the fence did not look so bad, but when looking closer and after a big tree branch fell on it and parts of it just missing or not existing, it was really time to replace it. Have a look at the before and after pictures. We are happy that we will be able to enjoy a much nicer view all summer. And the garden is growing well too!

First outdoor splash of the year

Seems like we have jumped straight into summer - the weather has been great and sometimes even hot so the turtle pool is out and Nina and Stasiu had their first outdoor splash bath a little while ago. They were more than happy to cool off this way. Plus for us - no need to give them another bath before bed so everybody was happy.

Sailing with the neighbors

Last Thursday we went for a short sail after work with our neighbors Al & Laura. The weather was cold and cloudy but there was a strong breeze. Laura was very bravely playing with Nina & Stasiu inside while we were sailing but after a while the strong motion was becoming a bit much. Luckily we were already on our way back and a few minutes later we were back at the slip opening a bottle of red wine.
